The divided boxes were the kits (projects) they did for the class. They also brought in a huge tub of mixed pieces for the kids who finished early. Our home Lego is just like yours--in a large tub jumble. :-)

LOL, Julie. No--snow lasts here a lot longer than in the UK, so no need to store snowballs in the freezer! :-)

Wow, so much snow already. We haven't had any here (in the UK) yet.
Didn't you put the giant snowballs in the freezer? Mine always insist on that!
best wishes, Julie.

That looks like a really fun class. I loved the windmills.
I am mostly impressed with the neat little divided lego boxes though! We have our lego in assorted margarine tubs but can never find the exact piece we need. Sigh!
best wishes, Julie.

You are all, just slightly touching on how a facility built in the community, possiblly linked to the City, for the residents and then visitors, can be allowed to create a financial barrier, for those who cannot afford to enter.

Did the centre's marketing team study what the majority of the citizens could or would be able to pay for entrance? Seems to me the major clientele will be upper middle class to me, perhaps families from the sponsoring companies. Is this venue part of the Oilmen's club of Calgary, for their children?

Seems to me Telus is applying their marketing strategy and most certainly seems their values are underpinning this 'public venue'. Come on Calgary, consider accessibilty - its for chlldren not a profit generating centre.

LOVED!! the boy's outfits. They look fantastic.

Personally I love the smell of pumpkin. When I was a kid we carved turnips (pumpkins weren't readily available over here then!)- the smell of burning turnip is NOT something I remember fondly!! But I am totally with you on the texture of pumpkin guts. Yuck!

Risa, I have no idea how much inroads you've made with this, but I know you've been posting about it, and I thought I'd throw out one suggestion. At the very expensive aquarium not too far away from us, they do something tricky that clearly helps them not lose money on memberships. They make it so that you can't buy one at the regular price when you walk in the door. In other words, the membership is (while more expensive than other places) still reasonable, but unlike at places like the Science Center or the Children's Museum, you can't apply the cost of your visit to a membership or buy a membership on site. They charge you an additional fee for processing it there and then which means that they're essentially getting the price of your attendance that day PLUS the membership fee. However, people who plan ahead can save themselves by getting their membership ahead of time. In other words, those who plan ahead and the museum (or aquarium) benefit from this. Maybe something to propose?
